- "Layla" LP cover signed by the legendary Eric Clapton, when he was a guest of the hotel where Jim was performing (opening night of what turned out to be a 5 year engagement: Akron, Ohio's Quaker Square Hilton).

- (1984) "Garfunkel for a moment" ... Stage pass for Paul Simon concert given to Jim. Simon was a guest of the Quaker Hilton where Jim Smith was performing while in town for his own show at Blossom Music Center. The two played a duet of "The Boxer".

- (1988) Performing with Don Dokken at Akron, Ohio's Quaker Square Hilton, with Van Halen and Metallica in the audience. All were in town for the "Monsters of Rock Tour".
